🇺🇸 Climate denial, disappearing penguins, Netflix for the climate, and all the news from this week
“On Tuesday night, eight candidates were asked to raise their hands if they believed in the reality of human-caused global heating. They all punted” - and one candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, even flat out said, “Climate change is a hoax”.
Let’s be real, climate deniers don’t actually disagree with the science. It’s an act to avoid all responsibility to fix it. If you don’t believe in something, you don’t have to deal with it. We’ve all been there - denial can help you initially get through shock, but we really don’t have time to linger in this phase anymore, and it’s frightening that world leaders are still using this as an escape.
In other news, but in a similar vein, a new study by The IMF has found that fossil fuel companies received a record-breaking amount of subsidies last year - $7 trillion to be exact. Scientists confirmed this week that Canada’s wildfires were made far worse due to climate change - 7 times worse. And the release of water from the Japanese nuclear plant Fukushima has already caused the price of produce from surrounding coastal areas to drop.
But it’s not all doom and gloom - there are still millions of people out there wanting change. Scroll down to our startup section to read more about the recent breakthroughs and solutions making waves in sustainability.
